The Psalter is Israel’s hymnbook: lament, praise, thanksgiving, royal psalms, and wisdom. It trains the heart to speak to God in trouble and in joy, and it points ahead to the Messiah.

1A Song of degrees. Behold, bless Jehovah, all ye servants of Jehovah, who by night stand in the house of Jehovah. 2Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless Jehovah. 3Jehovah, the maker of heavens and earth, bless thee out of Zion.
