The Psalter is Israel’s hymnbook: lament, praise, thanksgiving, royal psalms, and wisdom. It trains the heart to speak to God in trouble and in joy, and it points ahead to the Messiah.

Psalms 130

1Cantique Mahaloth. Ô Éternel ! je t’invoque des lieux profonds. 2Seigneur, écoute ma voix ! que tes oreilles soient attentives à la voix de mes supplications. 3Ô Eternel ! si tu prends garde aux iniquités, Seigneur, qui est-ce qui subsistera ? 4Mais il y a pardon par-devers toi, afin que tu sois craint. 5J’ai attendu l’Eternel ; mon âme l’a attendu, et j’ai eu mon attente en sa parole. 6Mon âme attend le Seigneur plus que les sentinelles n’attendent le matin, plus que les sentinelles n’attendent le matin. 7Israël, attends-toi à l’Eternel : car l’Eternel est miséricordieux et il y a rédemption en abondance par devers lui. 8Et lui-même rachètera Israël de toutes ses iniquités.
