The Psalter is Israel’s hymnbook: lament, praise, thanksgiving, royal psalms, and wisdom. It trains the heart to speak to God in trouble and in joy, and it points ahead to the Messiah.

1Canto dei pellegrinaggi. Nella mia distretta ho invocato l’Eterno, ed egli m’ha risposto. 2O Eterno, libera l’anima mia dalle labbra bugiarde, dalla lingua fraudolenta. 3Che ti sarà dato e che ti sarà aggiunto, o lingua fraudolenta? 4Frecce di guerriero, acute, con carboni di ginepro. 5Misero me che soggiorno in Mesec, e dimoro fra le tende di Kedar! 6L’anima mia troppo a lungo ha dimorato con colui che odia la pace! 7Io sono per la pace; ma, non appena parlo, essi sono per la guerra.
