1 Peter 4:9-11

1 Peter 4:9 is part of this passage.
9Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. 10As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms. 11If anyone speaks, let it be as it were the very words of God. If anyone serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Summary

Practice hospitality without grumbling; steward varied gifts in serving one another—speaking as God’s words and serving in God’s strength—so that God is glorified through Jesus Christ forever.

Interpretation

“Be hospitable to one another without grumbling” makes open homes a gospel strategy. Grumbling empties hospitality of love. In persecution and mobility, tables become sanctuaries.

“As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms.” Gifts are received grace, not personal brands. Stewardship language demands accountability to the Giver for others’ good.

Two broad lanes: speech and service. “If anyone speaks, let it be as it were the very words of God”—weighty, Scripture-shaped, not self-exalting. “If anyone serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies”—dependent energy, not burnout heroics.

The aim: “that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever.” Gift culture is doxological. Practice: open your table once without complaint; use one gift this week in God’s strength for someone’s good; deflect credit to Jesus.

Hospitality without grumbling and gifts without self-glory form a Spirit-supplied economy of grace. Speak as stewards of God’s words; serve as stewards of God’s strength. Both lanes aim at Jesus’ glory and dominion.

Inventory your household and your gifts this week. Open a door. Offer a skill. Refuse the grumble and the spotlight. Let God be glorified through Jesus in the ordinary ministries of a near-end people.

Receive this passage as pastoral medicine: pray it aloud, share it with one fellow exile, and take one obedient step the same day so interpretation becomes discipleship rather than information alone.
