Revelation 22:1-5

Revelation 22:1 is part of this passage.
1He showed me a river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb, 2in the middle of its street. On this side of the river and on that was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruits, yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3There will be no curse any more. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will serve him. 4They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5There will be no night, and they need no lamp light or sun light; for the Lord God will illuminate them. They will reign forever and ever.

Summary

From the throne of God and the Lamb flows the river of life; the tree of life heals the nations; there is no more curse, for God and the Lamb are the light, and His servants reign forever.

Interpretation

Eden’s lost access returns—and is surpassed. “He showed me a river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.” Life flows from shared throne. Father and Lamb are not rivals; they are the single fountain of the world’s healing.

The tree of life bears twelve fruits and leaves “for the healing of the nations.” Nations once deceived and judged are now healed. Mission’s goal was never cultural erasure; it was life under God. Apocalyptic hope is restorative for peoples, not merely private.

“There will be no curse any more.” Genesis 3’s shadow lifts. The throne is in the city; servants serve Him and see His face; His name is on their foreheads. Sight of God—beatific communion—fulfills what temple and priesthood always hinted. Mark of God finally outlasts the mark of the beast. Healing of the nations begins in how the church loves across lines the world keeps sharp.

Night is no more; they need no lamp or sun, “for the Lord God will illuminate them. They will reign forever and ever.” Reigning with God is the dignified end of a people once crushed by beasts. Explain imagery as fulfillment symbolism: river, tree, light, and face describe communion and life denser than literalism alone can hold, yet not less than real.

Pastoral takeaway: thirst for this river now through the Spirit (see 22:17). Practice healing across divides as a foretaste of leaves for the nations. Refuse curse-patterns—bitterness, exploitation, despair—as unfit for citizens of this city. This is pastoral Scripture for real churches, not a playground for fear.

When ministry feels barren, remember fruit every month. When shame burns, remember His name on foreheads. When darkness presses, remember God is the light.

Hold 22:1–5 with 21:3–4: dwelling, wiped tears, river, and face form one pastoral chord. Revelation ends in presence, not in endless combat.

Pray: Lamb and Lord, let living water reach us now; heal the nations; lift the curse; shine on Your servants; and teach us to serve and reign as those who will see Your face. Live now as a servant who will see His face: keep short accounts, seek the nations’ healing, and drink living water by faith.
