The Psalter is Israel’s hymnbook: lament, praise, thanksgiving, royal psalms, and wisdom. It trains the heart to speak to God in trouble and in joy, and it points ahead to the Messiah.

1ALLELUIA. Anima mia, loda il Signore. 2Io loderò il Signore, mentre viverò; Io salmeggerò al mio Dio, mentre durerò. 3Non vi confidate in principi, [Nè] in alcun figliuol d'uomo, che non ha modo di salvare. 4Il suo fiato uscirà, ed egli se ne ritornerà nella sua terra; In quel dì periranno i suoi disegni. 5Beato colui che ha l'Iddio di Giacobbe in suo aiuto, La cui speranza [è] nel Signore Iddio suo 6Il quale ha fatto il cielo e la terra, Il mare, e tutto ciò ch'[è] in essi; Che osserva la fede in eterno; 7Il qual fa ragione agli oppressati; [E] dà del cibo agli affamati.
